Upcoming in December, studio jeweler Todd Pownell will hold an evening at TGFA with his full collection of 18k gold, palladium and diamond jewelry on Sunday the 28th. Join us for a reception from 4-7 and meet the artist. TAP by Todd Pownell is awarded with the Mort Abelson Award for Best New Jewelry Designer of the Year.
Tap by Todd Pownell was presented with the Mort Abelson New Designer of the Year Award at the Jewelers of America show in NYC last week. One of the most prestigious awards given out in the industry. It bears the name of the late Mort Abelson who is known as an innovator in the field by exposing original hand crafted jewelry work to the somewhat stale and predictable world of commercial jewelry. In 1977 he launched the New Designer Gallery at the JA show which served as a platform by introducing new designers.
TAP by Todd Pownell is a Cleveland based jewelry design studio gaining new attention with fresh compositions. Using combinations of dark and light metals, texture, inverted diamonds and cage settings; TAP jewelry designs have an air of mystery by catching the eye and engaging the senses. Our signature style of bead setting diamonds upside down reflects the romantic feeling of twilight.
In 2008 Todd began developing his design jewelry line. Tap by Todd Pownell has since grown from a two to a four person workshop and is sold in stores and galleries throughout the country.
Todd has taught and given numerous lectures and workshops focusing on topics including: stone setting, fabrication and sharing incites into building a viable studio. He is a member of The Contemporary Jewelry Design Group, Ethical Metalsmiths and The Diamond Development Initiative.
