Though Curry Wright is for the most part self-taught, she has always been drawn to visual art
and the opportunities presented for new subject matter. Over the years, she has experimented
with pen and ink, diorama, acrylic, latex and oil paints, and oil pastels with cartoons, caricatures,
landscapes, still life, and one-of-a-kind posters.
In this series of paintings, she feels she has come home. As a writer as well as visual artist, text
and handwriting have always had incredible appeal. Two things currently draw her in: antique
and vintage papers and their decorative elements/stories; and found papers, ranging from lists,
ledgers and maps to kids homework and personal letters. Assembling elements, she searches for
both balance and randomness, order and pushing the limits of order. When an idea emerges, she
adds paint and sometimes commentary.
Though subject matter evolves, she continues to explore the mysteries of animal, vegetable and
mineral kingdoms.
